Buyers Spotlight: Dr. Sam Koppula
18 April 2019
As an art and architecture enthusiast, Dr. Sam Koppula was instantly attracted to 1000M. Dr. Koppula has lived in the South Loop for over 15 years and was one of 1000M’s first buyers. In our latest blog, Dr. Koppula shares with us what made 1000M stand out from other new developments, and which amenities she’s most looking forward to enjoying.
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I’m an allergy and asthma doctor in Chicago. I’ve been practicing for over 30 years and now have my own practice. I find I approach everything in my life, even medicine, from a design standpoint. I’m extremely passionate about art, architecture, yoga and meditation. I’m originally from the southern part of India, where I’m actually currently building a resort on a coconut farm.
How did you hear about 1000M?
A patient of mine told me about the project. I was looking at another new building under construction, but I didn’t like the obstructed views. One day I was walking on Michigan Ave., going to lunch, and I passed the sales gallery. I was immediately drawn to it and was taken by the amazing space. The models really won me over.
What type of residence did you purchase?
I selected a three-bedroom, 3,000-square-foot corner residence with north and east views. I was looking for a linear space – I didn’t want anything boxy – and my kitchen will have about 30 to 40 feet of uninterrupted glass, offering panoramic lake views. I’m really excited about the terrace too. It’s something I’ve always wanted.
Did Helmut Jahn’s involvement as 1000M’s architect influence your decision to buy?
My current home is filled with books on architecture. I’ve been interested in it since I was 11, so knowing Helmut was on the project definitely caught my eye, because I love his work. I love the way 1000M twists on its axis. It’s an ingenious way of maximizing the views. Helmut genuinely thought about the people who would be living in the tower. Not many buildings have a public space on the top floor, which is going to allow everyone in the building to share the views.
What amenities are you excited about?
I’m most excited about the top floor amenity space, Club 1000, and the spa. As I mentioned, I love meditation and yoga, so I’ll be using those spaces, as well as the library and theater.
