Chicago Theater Week 2020

11 February 2020

1000M is nestled in the heart of Chicago’s Cultural Mile, presenting residents with an all-access pass to the latest and greatest to hit the city’s cultural scene. Lighting up the scene this month is the eighth annual Chicago Theater Week, a ten-day event promoting discounted tickets to more than 100 performances at theaters across the city.

Chicago Theater Week

Chicago Theater Week serves as a showcase of the city’s diverse theaters and productions, spanning across neighborhoods and genres including musicals, improv, drama and beyond. As part of the week’s promotional focus, tickets to performances at renowned theaters like the Goodman Theater and Broadway in Chicago, as well as local up-and-comers, are priced at $30, $15 or less.

The event takes place from February 13 to February 23 this year, and is presented by the League of Chicago Theaters in partnership with Choose Chicago. It’s a time for long-time theater lovers to binge, or offers a great point of entry into the live entertainment scene for newcomers. It also allows the creative and local talent to shine — and in the spirit of promoting local voices, here are our top picks for Chicago Theater Week performances happening near 1000M:

SUMMER: The Donna Summer Musical

Presented by Broadway in Chicago at the James M. Nederlander Theatre, SUMMER is a tribute to the voice of a generation, and how she risked it all to break through barriers.

The Queen of Spades

Presented by the Lyric Opera of Chicago at their theater, this classically romantic Tchaikovsky feat tells the story of a soldier obsessed with learning the secrets of a countess that always wins at cards.

The Times Are Racing

From our friends over at The Joffrey Ballet, this mixed repertoire performance brings together “powerful, gripping new works of unbridled athleticism from four of the most influential choreographers in the field.”

The exciting and experiential Chicago Theater Week is a beautiful opportunity for residents to Seek Beauty. For a full list of performances and to purchase tickets, visit the Chicago Theater Week website here.
