5 December 2019
Our bellies are full, our fridges are well stocked and Thanksgiving is officially behind us. It’s now time to set our sights to phase two of the holiday season: Christmas. Chicago is ready to embrace the festivities full force, with the return of everyone’s favorite: Christkindlmarket. This holiday attraction is only a short walk from 1000M, making it the perfect afternoon destination on a snowy December day.
Christkindlmarket has been Chicagoland’s favorite holiday tradition since 1996. The market has deep roots, inspired by the 16th century Christkindlesmarkt that was hosted in Nuremberg, Germany. Brought to America by The German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest Inc. (GACC Midwest) in order to promote relations between Germany and the US, the market was an instant success in Chicago. Now with two locations, you can visit the market in downtown Chicago at Daley Plaza or in Wrigleyville at Gallagher Way.

The outdoor holiday market is the perfect place to check some holiday gift shopping off your to-do list. Shops line the plaza in gingerbread-esque houses, showcasing goodies from across the globe. Find ornaments, stocking stuffers and more in a cozy, authentic holiday atmosphere.
Best of all: admission is free, leaving plenty of change in your pockets to spend enjoying international food and beverages. Warm up with roasted nuts, fresh pretzels, bratwarts, hot chocolate and hot spiced wine. And don’t forget to collect an annually-designed specialty souvenir mug to remember your trip.
