Cochon555: An Unmissable Culinary Experience
30 April 2019
Whether you’ve only visited Chicago for a few days or have lived in the city for years, you know there’s no shortage of culinary experiences. Located along iconic Michigan Avenue, 1000M is in close proximity to amazing restaurants, bars and local favorites. This coming September, a special trip to Fulton Market is in order, as chefs from around the country compete in Cochon555’s Grand Cochon, an epic finale to a national tour of fantastic food.
Founded in 2008, Cochon555 is a culinary event dedicated to supporting family farmers and educating consumers and buyers about the agricultural importance of eating heritage breed pigs. The national culinary tour started in Dallas in early-February, and each event features five local chefs working with the highest quality ingredients and products, including heritage breed pork and ethically sourced food. Gourmet creations, endless rounds of wine and cocktails and inventive culinary explorations are staples for each Cochon event, ensuring a fantastic afternoon for participants.
Chicago’s local showdown happened back in March, with Daniel Espinoza taking home the crown. Espinoza, the Corporate R&D Chef for Cantina Laredo, will compete in the Grand Cochon along with other winners around the country. The event is essentially a 40-course stand-up tasting menu, with dozens of competition plates served alongside wines, spirits and handcrafted cocktails. A portion of all sales benefit Cochon555’s sister charity, Piggy Bank, a genetic sanctuary for pigs and a resource for family farmers dedicated to making food safer and more honest. After an afternoon of feasting, attendees will vote on the grand winner, who will be crowned the “King or Queen of Porc”. Whether you’re a certified foodie or casual eater, the Grand Cochon is a event not to be missed.
The Grand Cochon happens in Chicago this fall, on September 15th in Fulton Market. Presale tickets are available now.
