Neon sign that says Comedy Club

Everyone can use a good laugh now and then. Maybe you’ve already gone through all of Netflix’s comedy specials or just want to explore the local talent pool — either way, this week we’re bringing a list of ways to enjoy local comedy from your couch, from Zoom open mics to livestreams and more.

Hideout Online: Variety of Shows

The Hideout Chicago isn’t primarily a comedy venu per se, but like all music venues in Chicago, their physical doors are closed for the foreseeable future. Getting crafty during challenging times, The Hideout has come up with clever (and witty, and funny) solutions to continue entertaining. Check out their calendar to explore weekly bingo, music and comedy livestreams, all aired on their Twitch channel.

The Neo-Futurists: Infinite Wrench

To say that The Neo-Futurists, based out of Chicago’s northside neighborhood, Andersonville, are lively would be an understatement. Their unique breed of comedy blends sport, poetry and living newspaper to produce a show unlike any other. In a recent development, they’re adapting their famous show, Infinite Wrench, to be viewable online, on-demand. The premise behind Infinite Wrench is simple: thirty micro-plays in just sixty minutes. The product of Infinite Wrench? Anything but simple.

The Annoyance: Happy Hour

Self-described as Chicago’s only funny comedy, independent venue The Annoyance Theater is the best place for off-beat humor. They have a wide array of “quarantine-friendly” programming, including their virtual happy hour, a free Twitch stream each Saturday at 4 PM that includes live improv, sketches and audience suggestions.

No matter your breed of comedy, we guarantee you can find it in this mix.
