Enjoy the Fourth of July Chicago Style

3 July 2019

Enjoy the Fourth of July, Chicago style, with festive food, drinks and more.

Chicago is long on events and festivities for holidays, and the Fourth of July is no exception. Last year, we featured some of the city’s most iconic ways to celebrate. We’ve updated our list for 2019, so if you’re thinking of braving the heat (or rain), here are a few new options:

Search for Festive Foods

Despite our midwest location, Chicago is no stranger to classic barbecue fair. A few local favorites include Green Streets Smoked Meats in the West Loop, Lillie’s Q in Wicker Park, and Smoque BBQ, with locations in Irving Park and Revival Food Hall in the loop. Take advantage of the long weekend, eat a sandwich or two and decide for yourself which BBQ reigns supreme.

Enjoy a Cocktail (or Two) Outside

We’ve already covered some of our favorite patio spots in the city, but a special occasion may elicit venturing into new territory. Head up to River North to Bar Cargo’s beer garden for a round of frozen cocktails, or make the trip out to Parson’s Chicken & Fish and their decked-out Logan Square patio space (fried chicken also counts as acceptable Fourth of July food). For a more upscale evening, the West Loop’s Aba provides Mediterranean tapas, dreamy outdoor seating and rare wines and spirits.

Stick with the Classics

If your holiday tradition isn’t broken, don’t fix it. Whether it’s soaking up the sun on your favorite beach, spending time with loved ones or watching the fireworks over Lake Michigan, there’s nothing like Chicago in the summertime. If you’re looking for something to do last-minute, Choose Chicago has an extensive list of all things Independence Day.

No matter how you celebrate, life at 1000M keeps you close to everything the city has to offer. We hope you have a safe and wonderful holiday weekend, and happy Fourth from everyone at 1000M
