Farm-To-Table Dinners Near 1000M
18 June 2019
While the 1000M Level 11 Sun Deck and Level 72 Sky Terrace help you connect with nature in the city, we know that every so often, people yearn to go back to the basics. Farm-to-table dinners are a great way to realign with nature through an elevated dining experience. With exceptional farms just a stone’s throw from the city, it’s possible to reconnect with the basics in a way that is anything but.
Farm Dinners at Chicago Botanic Garden — 25 miles
The Chicago Botanic Garden is only a 40-minute car ride from 1000M, and well worth the trip, since the Chicago Botanic Garden’s Farm Dinner promises more than an ordinary experience. Underneath a grape arbor and surrounded by vegetable gardens, enjoy a spectacular meal prepared with locally-grown ingredients by award-winner chef Cleetus Friedman. Friedman is the executive chef at Lakefront Restaurant at Chicago’s Theater on the Lake — and his exquisite cuisine will be paired with beverages from FEW Spirits, Metropolitan Brewing, Revolution Brewing, Begyle Brewing and Lynfred Winery. Alongside dinner, Windy City Harvest Youth Farm students will share how produce is planted, cultivated and harvested.
The Chicago Botanic Garden Farm Dinners take place on Wednesday, July 17, August 14 and September 4 from 5-8 PM; you can purchase tickets here.
Farm Dinners at Heritage Prairie Farms — 50 miles
The monthly Farm Dinners at Heritage Prairie Farm are family-style experiences celebrating the tastes of the season. Each dinner is made from fresh ingredients, hand selected on their Certified Organic Farm, with the chef assisted by farm crew. Themes in the 2019 Farm Dinner Series include “Honey & Beer” and “Roots & Wine.” To accompany a magical dining experience under twinkling lights, live music plays all night long and tours are available, guided by Farmer Nate himself.
Farm Dinners at Heritage Prairie Farms occur once a month; you can view a full schedule and purchase tickets here.
Farm Events at Mint Creek Farm — 70 miles
Travel 90 minutes outside the city for the full Farm Dinner experience. At Mint Creek Farm, Farm Events not only include four-course brunch or dinner, but a two-hour tour of the farm, as well. Their meals are prepared by a wide array of guest chefs, and the 2019 farm dinner season is sponsored by Middle Brow Beer Co. & Letherbee Distillers — and alongside provided beer and spirits, the event is BYOB. With live music, many guests like to linger by the campfire. Make the outing into an overnight stay, with the option to camp or stay at neighboring partner Greenhouse B&B.
Farm Events at Mint Creek Farm occur on June 29, July 20, September 1, 3-8 PM and September 28, 2:30-8 PM; you can purchase tickets here.
With bellies full and a sojourn with nature complete, residents can return to 1000M and the city refreshed, restored and primed for city life.
